What is Ginkgo Biloba extract?

The Ginkgo Biloba extract from the leaf of a ginkgo tree is known as effective on memory recovery and blood circulation improvement. Since 1965 in Germany and 1974 in France, it has been used as drugs for the purpose of improving blood vessel disorder, blood flow and dementia. As in those two countries, it is now widely used as drugs in Italy, Switzerland, South Korea, Taiwan and Malaysia. Meanwhile, it is treated for sales as a variety of health food products in USA, UK, Canada and Japan.

: Ginkgo Biloba Leaf extract enhances learning ability and memory, it intensifies the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px). Further, it weakens the level of malondialdehyde (MDA : active oxygen) and increases the percentage of Bcl-2/Bax (suppressed cell death/induced cancer cell natural death), and reducing the level of cleaved Caspase 3 (cell self-destruction death).

: It was reported that cognitive decline in a non-demented elderly population was lower in subjects who used EGb761? than in those who did not. Such effect was not found in Piracetam which is other medicine for dementia, which seemed to be obvious effect of EGb761?.
