Folate What is Folate? Folic A is soluble vitamin that belongs to vitamin-B. Distributed in green plants, it was originated from a Latin word ‘folium’ which means a leaf. Today, it is normally called ‘folate’, while its supplement or folate in fortified nutrient food is known as ‘folic acid’. Folate is a nutrient helpful for making mature red blood cell. It has been used for a pregnant woman with anemia since 1930s, as the most necessary for the biosynthesis of nucleic acid and cell division. However, most types of folate forms are very unstable and easily destructive, for which folate is one of the most deficient nutrients even being contained in a variety of daily food.

Effect of folate 1. Normal development of embryonic neural tube The sufficient intake of folate during the early stages of pregnancy performs the important role for preventing congenital malformation and the loss of embryonic neural tube. 2. Increase reproductive ability As folate performs the role of reducing the genetic bonding of semen, it is recommended for both men and women. 3. Created new cells and red blood cells Folate is essential because it helps the synthesis of DNA and RNA and protects DNA against degeneration during new cells created. 4. Regulating normal homocysteine blood content In addition, due to bad blood circulation, it may also lead to the diseases including heart attack, stroke, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.
